How To Overlay Your Riffs With EPIC 2nd Guitar Part Ideas
Apr 05, 2025Two guitar parts are always better than one. A guitarist’s approach to writing is typically grounded in a single guitar part. By that, I don’t just mean a single riff or a lick, but it can also be a situation where a single guitar flows in and out of verse and chorus riffs with an occasional solo thrown in for good measure. What we hear though, especially in modern music, isn’t always just one guitar. Usually, at least two guitar parts are playing our favorite songs, even if both guitars are playing the same thing. But we don’t always want to limit ourselves to this one-dimensional approach to writing. We can often use the second guitar part in ways that are much more creative than being a clone of the first guitar part. In this lesson, we’ll take a little journey together with a single, simple riff. We are going to take that riff and overlay it with different ideas that will help bolster its intensity in varying ways. Grab your axe, take a seat, and let’s get ready to rock.
